Kate Kemsley

Dr. Kate Kemsley

Senior Scientific Director

Kate studied physics at Oxford University, and upon graduating worked as a Patent Examiner at the European Patent Offices in The Hague and Berlin, before making a move into academia. Her PhD and early career at the UK's Institute of Food Research focused on quantitative applications of infrared sensors. This led to her interest in the emerging fields of chemometrics, computational statistics and machine learning, to handle the large datasets generated by modern analytical instruments (NMR, FTIR, Raman, GC-, LC-MS).

Kate has published widely in the academic literature, in areas of application including natural product adulteration, human metabolomics studies and identification of novel psychoactives. She led the platform technologies group at the Quadram Institute Bioscience for several years, before becoming the University of East Anglia’s first Professor of AI in Chemistry concurrent with her new role as Scientific Director at Mestrelab.
